Propagandhi Breaks Eight-Year Silence with ‘At Peace’
After an eight-year hiatus, Canadian punk stalwarts Propagandhi are set to unleash their eighth studio album, At Peace, on May 2, 2025, via Epitaph Records. This forthcoming release marks their first since 2017’s Victory Lap, signaling a potent return to their politically charged roots.
Frontman Chris Hannah offers a candid reflection on the album’s tone, stating, “Everything I’m singing about is still coming from being the same person that wrote and sang our first record, How to Clean Everything in 1993. But what we’re putting into the songs now probably reflects more despair than 30 years ago when we had similar perspectives, but with strands of hope and naivete.” This evolution underscores a deeper, more contemplative approach to their songwriting, mirroring the complexities of today’s socio-political landscape.
At Peace was crafted during a turbulent political era, notably as former U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at annexing Canada as the 51st state. The album was completed in December 2024, just before Trump’s return to power in America. This backdrop of uncertainty and unrest permeates the record, offering a raw and unflinching perspective on contemporary issues.
In conjunction with the album announcement, Propagandhi has released a lyric video for the title track, “At Peace.” The video, animated by Lucius Amberg, provides a visual accompaniment to the song’s incisive lyrics and relentless energy. Fans can view the lyric video on the band’s official YouTube channel.
